Microsoft recently released SkyDrive app for Android devices. It is a cloud storage service that enables its users to share files or folders via e-mail, upload images and videos to SkyDrive, and open SkyDrive files in other apps. Previously, Microsoft launched a SkyDrive app for iOS-based devices.
The SkyDrive app for Android is designed to work better with Android-powered smartphones and tablets. Though Microsoft says that the app has been designed keeping in mind Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). iYogi, in its review, found that it can work on any device running Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), or higher version.
Some of the other salient features of SkyDrive app for Android devices are:
- It enables access to all your SkyDrive content including files shared with you
- You can even view recently used documents
- You can choose multiple photos or videos to upload from your Android device
- It allows you to share files and photos. You just have to send a link in e-mail or in another app to the other person
- You can access your SkyDrive files from other Android apps too
- It facilitates managing your files. You can delete, or create new folders easily
Microsoft is directly competing with other cloud storage services such as SugarSync, Dropbox, Google Drive and Apple’s iCloud by launching SkyDrive app for Android devices. The only difference is that Microsoft SkyDrive app is offering its first time users more free storage (up to 7GB). Secondly, the charges for additional storage too are cheaper than other competing cloud storage platforms.
