Every time you walk in to a coffee shop or a McDonald’s, along with your money you also give away your sensitive personal information regarding your e-mail accounts and possibly even your bank details. How you ask? Two words; free Wi-Fi. Yes, the free Wi-Fi you use on your Mac, iPhone or iPad in places like Starbucks or McDonald’s is not safe as you think it might be. One of the main reasons for that is that they are not password protected which means a hacker who is skilled enough can hack in to your device through the flow of signals and you would think that would be quite rare.

But, there are software today like FaceNiff and FireSheep which can hack into the Wi-Fi and provide the user with the login details of the people who are logged into the network at the time. It includes your mail accounts, Facebook, Twitter, you name it, and the worst part is you won’t even know what hit you.

But now Cloak is here for you to prevent your accounts and Apple devices from getting hacked. Cloak is basically a VPN (virtual private network) service that converts your normally flowing data into encrypted codes. These encrypted codes cannot be picked up by hacking tools like FireSheep and FaceNiff. The program is operated via multiple cloud servers that form a dynamic VPN that cannot be infiltrated easily.

Though the service is neither free nor terribly cheap but in our opinion it’s a small price to pay to protect your data and your privacy.

Apple’s recent announcement to dip into the tech industry has sparked a bit of controversy. Personally, I don’t feel as if it’s realistic. The technology — iPads and whatnot — they’re all here and ready, but I don’t feel like people are ready to let go of traditional methods and embrace the now, even if the now is more efficient.

That being said, I do like the idea, and here’re a few reasons why.
